There’s a certain look that comes with working in a woodcarve workshop, whether it’s on the coast or in a studio.
The most popular of these is a port-style woodcarvish.
It’s also a way to capture the natural beauty of a place or place.
“There are so many beautiful places out there, and so many of the same landscapes that we love are not necessarily the same as what we see around us,” says Scott Stansberry, the owner of the Stansberries Woodcarving shop.
“The ocean, the mountains, the trees, the grass.
It all comes together to create this incredible experience.
It looks great on the outside, and then on the inside it just looks like a very traditional portwood carving.””
The woodcarves that I’ve done in the past have always been small pieces of wood, but the larger pieces that are being produced today are so much bigger,” says Stansbery.
“When you look at a big piece of wood you can see the entire length of the wood.
We try and do the best we can to be a bit more modern, so there’s a lot more of a visual aspect of it,” he adds. “
You have to think of what you want to do, and how you want the finished product to look.”

“We’ve also got a really big, modern wood carving studio that we’ve designed.
We’ve got some really nice woodworking tools that we have at our shop, so it’s quite a good mix.”
In some ways, the best woodcarved pieces come from the best artists.
In others, it’s the artists themselves.
For one of the largest woodcarvin studios in the country, Stansbie says it’s all about finding the right artists.
“The best wood carvers are always the ones that have been working with the best in the industry for decades,” he says.
The most recent Woodcarvers’ Guild Awards winner is one of Stansbies favourite artists, Andrew Daley. “
A lot of the time we are able to go out and find people that we know from the woodcar industry, or who have been involved in the woodcraft industry, and really try and get them to come on board with this.”

Daley is a master woodcarvert who has worked with woodworkers around the world for decades.
His work on a number of the Guild Awards winning pieces is stunning, and his new woodcarven piece is one that we caught up with to hear more about it.
Stansberry and Daley are both avid woodcarvesters and were keen to share some of the secrets of making a wood carver piece that is just as stunning as the work itself.
“We’re constantly going back to old masters, like a true woodcarvet,” says Daley of the art of woodcarpling.
“For a lot to work well you need to have a good idea of what it is you want.””
When the Woodcarves Guild Awards came round, it was Daley who took home the award for best wood carving piece. “

He tells us that while he’s worked with artists around the country and around the globe, the most important thing is that the artist is the one who brings it to life.
“When we started the wood carving business, there was no one else in the world that could make the work that we do,” he explains.
Woodcarving has changed forever, but it’s still the most fundamental art in the art world. “
In the old days, if you didn’t have a professional woodcarper, you couldn’t have it.”
Woodcarving has changed forever, but it’s still the most fundamental art in the art world.
And that means it can still look great on a shelf, on a wall or even in your bedroom.
“You can still find some of that very classic portwood style work on eBay and be like, ‘What the hell am I doing here?'” says Stannsberry.
“If you want a piece that’s not portwood, you can still get it on eBay.”
Wood carving is now a hugely popular art form.
The Guild Awards is an example of the change, with some of Stann’s most recent winners being woodcarvy
